Development of The Brief Cope for Aphasia

Study Description:
Recruiting participants with aphasia and their caregivers for an online research study. The purpose of the study is to develop a coping questionnaire for patients with post-stroke aphasia. Relatively little is known about stress and coping among patients with post-stroke aphasia. Currently there exists no coping questionnaires developed specifically for people with aphasia. The current study aims to develop an aphasia coping questionnaire.
Aphasia Friendly Study Description:
We want to develop a coping questionnaire for people with aphasia to learn more about stress and coping.
Inclusion / Exclusion Criteria:
Inclusion criteria for people with aphasia includes diagnosis of left hemisphere stroke, existing diagnosis of aphasia, presence of no other neurological disease, denies communication disorder prior to stroke, over the age of 18 years, has internet connectivity, and a computer. Inclusion criteria for the aphasia participant's caregiver, who are acting as a control, includes caring for someone with aphasia, must be over 18 years of age, self-report no neurological disease, self-report no communication disorder, have internet connectivity, and a computer.

Duration of Study:
Participants with aphasia will be involved in one study activity over Zoom for 1.5 hours; caregiver participants will be involved for an additional 30 minutes.
